Charlbi Dean, “Triangle of Sadness” Actor and Canes Star Dies at 32

According to a representative for the actress, Charlbi Dean, whose star was about to rise with a leading role in Palme d’Or winner “Triangle of Sadness,” died. She was 32 years old.

Dean died on Monday from an unexpected and sudden illness, the representative confirmed but did not provide any additional details.

The South African model, who was sometimes called Charlbi Dean Kriek, started her career in modeling.

Troye Sivan and John Cleese starred in her first film credit, “Spud,” released in 2010.

After having a recurring role on the CW show “Black Lightning” as Syonide, she had other film roles.

Especially after the film’s positive reception at Cannes, Dean’s role in “Triangle of Sadness” was her biggest role to date. As Yaya, Dean portrayed a celebrity couple who embarked on a luxury cruise that went wrong.

In response to the film’s win at the festival, Dean wrote on Instagram, “Congratulations to our family, we made it!!” and thanked director Ruben Stlund, “you’re the GOAT, I’ll always be grateful for your trust in my genius.”

Dean appears to be engaged to male model Luke Volker based on posts on their Instagram accounts.

The Cape Town Etc reports that Charlbi Dean, alongside her then-boyfriend Ashton Schnehage, survived a near-fatal car accident in 2009, where she ended up with a collapsed lung and two vertebrae damaged, in addition to breaking her wrist, four ribs, and elbow.

Having appeared in commercials and catalogs when she was six years old, the Cape Town-born model and actress started her modeling career at an early age.

In 2012, Alfa Model Management signed her, and in 2014, she began homeschooling.

Acting and modeling jobs were obtained by Dean in Tokyo, New York, and London after he studied theatre in Cape Town. The movie version of Spud, based on the book by the same name, marked her acting debut in 2010.

The role of Amanda was assigned to Dean in this boarding-school comedy directed by Donovan Marsh and starring John Cleese and Troye Sivan.
