As part of National Cinema Day celebrations, cinemas across Gloucestershire will charge just £3 for tickets this weekend.
In addition to major chains such as Vue, Cineworld, Odeon and Picturehouse, some independent cinemas also offer cheap tickets. Depending on availability, they can be bought in advance or on the day.
In conjunction with the national event, Tivoli cinemas, located inside Regent Arcade, Cheltenham, will lower their ticket prices throughout Saturday (September 3).
Regent Arcade’s Scott Lahive said: “We are proud to be part of Tivoli’s National Cinema Day celebration, offering a unique big-screen experience.”.
“At just £3 on Saturday, we invite everyone in Cheltenham to come and see the best of recent blockbusters and legendary classics on offer.”
Throughout the day, visitors to Tivoli can watch family favorites like Top Gun Maverick and E.T. (40th Anniversary), Elvis, Three Thousand Years Longing and many more titles, as well as a seasonal menu from the Tivoli café

This National Cinema Day, What Movies are Available?
There will be a variety of movies to see depending on your local cinema. These movies including Jordan Peele’s Nope, Idris Elba’s Beast, the Elvis movie starring Austin Butler, and Where The Crawdads Sing starring Daisy Edgar-Jones.
What is National Cinema Day?
American theaters will offer $3 movie tickets for one day during a quiet period at the box office as part of “National Cinema Day.”
More than 3,000 theaters and over 30,000 screens will offer discounts on Sept. 3, thanks to the Cinema Foundation, a non-profit arm of NATO.
AMC and Regal Cinemas are among the major chains participating, as are all major movie studios. Every show, regardless of format, will cost no more than $3 in participating theaters.

Theaters typically have a slow weekend over Labor Day weekend. Exhibitors have experienced a particularly severe August lull this year. A recent filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy by Cineworld, which owns Regal Cinemas, cited a lack of major new releases.
It may, however, encourage moviegoers to return in the fall if National Cinema Day is a success.
A sizzle reel will be shown before each showing of upcoming films from A24, Amazon Studios, Disney, Focus Features, Lionsgate, Neon, Paramount, Sony Pictures Classics, Sony, United Artists Releasing, Universal, and Warner Bros.
In a statement, Jackie Brenneman, Cinema Foundation president, said: “After this summer’s record-breaking return to theaters, we wanted to celebrate moviegoing.” “We want to thank moviegoers who made this summer happen, and entice those who haven’t yet returned.”
Over the summer, the movie theater business bounced back significantly after more than two years of the pandemic.
Ticket sales for “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Minions: Rise of Gru,” “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” and “Jurassic World Dominion” reached $3.3 billion by Aug. 21, according to Comscore.
The totals for this year are about 20% lower than those for 2019. but exhibitors have had about 30% fewer wide releases than last year.
According to organizers, National Cinema Day could become a regular annual event. Also, a similar initiative has taken place in some other countries. But it is the first of its kind in the United States on such a large scale.
